Types of Prelingually Deaf Adult?
I became deaf at about 9 months old and have worn hearing aids at 3 years of age. I am severe/profound deaf and can decipher speech consisting of many individual letters, words, and measly 0% & 5% word recognition score for sentences (I should deserve a recognition score of 5% if i hear the sentences directly from a person, not through a P.A. system. 0% recognition score is given for P.A. system speaking.). % of the sentences. I speak unintelligibly because I never have a chance to learn to speak. In conclusion, my brain is very reluctant to decipher speech for more than 5% recognition scores as long as I am hearing in sentences, but individual words are very intelligible. My audiogram is: 75 dB @ 250 Hz, 90 dB @ 500 Hz, 100 dB @ 1,000 Hz, 115 dB @ 2,000 Hz, 115 dB @ 4,000 Hz, 85 dB @ 8,000 Hz. I consider getting Cochlear Implant or Envoy Esteem Implant in the intermediate term, but I plan to seek ENT specialist someday.
