What is the explanation for the decrease in oscillations when the length of a pendulum is longer?

how come, when a pendulum's length is longer, the number os oscillations it does in 30 seconds decreases? If the string is short, it does more oscillations in 30 seconds. Why is this? Please don't answer full of mathematical term, I want a somewhat simple answer. A paragraph long. =)
